What is Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu’s phone?

Spotted: Globe’s Ernest Cu with the BlackBerry Torch 9800

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 was right there on the table. Globe Telecom president and CEO Ernest Cu didn’t even bother hiding it when we chanced upon him at the Globe GCash-United Nations World Food Programme event. So we asked him if he’s using the BlackBerry as his main phone, and he said yes.

Considering that the telco had launched the iPhone 4 barely 2 weeks ago, we actually expected Globe’s head honcho to be carrying Steve “Wonder” Jobs’ so-called latest and greatest, if only to serve as Ernest Cu’s trophy wife phone. Guess we were wrong. Scratch that. We were wrong. Apparently, the man’s got no time for some pretentious tech romp. We learned that he’s been a BlackBerry user ever since the first CrackBerry was launched in the Philippines. He’s used to the famous BB QWERTY keypad. Ergo, Mr. Cu and the iPhone 4’s touch screen? They’re not compatible with each other. The relationship just wouldn’t work.

Now if you’re planning to snag one but just don’t have the P45,000  to burn, you may want to hold off for a few months. Ernest Cu mentioned that they will be offering it in December. Last time we checked, that’s when you’ll get your 13th month pay, right?
