Next week’s Apple ‘Back to the Mac’ event to introduce new laptops, Mac OS X 10.7?

Oh, poor ol’ Mac. Left wanting of some lovin’ after Stevie “Wonder” Jobs decided to shift his attention to the iPhone 4, the iPods, the iPad, and the iOS 4 this year. But it seems that Apple took notice and has now given some much-needed breath of fresh air to their line of computers, as evidenced by its “Back to the Mac ” event in the US this October 20 (October 21 here in the Philippines).

Though nothing but that image above was sent to members of the media, we surmise that we’d probably see new laptops. Heck, they might even also launch the next version of Mac OS X – called Mac OS X 10.7 Lion perhaps – what with Simba that lion peeking out from behind Apple’s logo. If you know a bit of Apple software history, then you might agree with us. The previous versions were codenamed after big cats. Remember the following?

  • Mac OS X 10.0: Cheetah
  • Mac OS X 10.1: Puma
  • Mac OS X 10.2: Jaguar
  • Mac OS X 10.3: Panther
  • Mac OS X 10.4: Tiger
  • Mac OS X 10.5: Leopard
  • Mac OS X 10.6: Snow Leopard

We’ll see next week then. For all we know, that lion could only be a sign of Apple’s increasing dominance and nothing more. Stay tuned.
