Nokia C7: First Impressions

During the launch of the Nokia N8 last week, one phone caught my eye aside from the N8, the Nokia C7. I was able to briefly play around with this Symbian^3 powered smartphone and here are some of my initial thoughts.

Nokia C7

The Nokia C7 is one sleek-looking phone. Slimmer and sleeker than the Nokia C6-01 in my opinion. It belongs to Nokia’s C-series of phones which are focused on social networking. It has a gorgeous 3.5” AMOLED display with Nokia’s ClearBlack technology and has a combination of stainless steel, glass and soft edges.

It runs on Nokia’s latest Symbian^3 OS which is quite easy and simple to use yet offers a lot of customization. Pretty powerful if you need to keep in touch not only with your e-mail and social network but other smartphone apps as well like feeds, calendar, maps, etc. It also supports multitasking and multiple customizable homescreens too. I don’t know of it’s the 680MHz processor or the Symbian^3 but there are times when switching applications or running apps isn’t as smooth as I want it to.

The Nokia C7 makes a pretty decent entertainment phone as well. It has an 8GB internal storage which can be expanded to 32GB via microSD and can do 720p HD video recording on its 8 megapixel camera.

One glaring drawback for me would be the fixed-focus camera. I don’t see the reason why an 8mp camera should be limited to a fixed-focus one but I guess it’s a sacrifice they made to achieve the 10.55mm slim profile. If you would consider getting the Nokia C7, be sure to try out the camera first if taking photos on your phone is important to you.

Expect the Nokia C7 to be available early November. No word on SRP yet but our estimate is around Php20k. Stay tuned.
